Stained Glass Restoration and Conservation

Stained Glass Windows Design/Restauration
When it comes to the maintenance and restoration of a stained glass panel, it's crucial to consider that the structural integrity of a stained glass window begins to deteriorate around the first century of its life. After this indicative period, the solder joints naturally start to weaken, making the stained glass increasingly fragile. Over time, there's a growing risk of detachment of the glass pieces that compose the mosaic, leading to potential fractures of the ancient pieces, necessitating a more invasive and complex restoration. It's therefore essential to intervene as soon as the lead starts to show signs of weakening and to carry out regular maintenance, typically at least every thirty years, to act promptly, if and where necessary, to consolidate and preserve the original pieces to the fullest extent possible, as well as the historical and aesthetic value of the stained glass itself.
