Types of clerical albs

One of the most common types of clerical gowns is the classic alb. This type of gown has a simple and clean shape, without folds or ornaments and it is usually worn for daily masses or for less formal celebrations. It is available in different fabrics, including cotton, linen and silk.

Another type of clerical gowns is the alb with pleats. This type of clerical clothing has folds on both chest and shoulders, which give it a more elaborate appearance than the classic one. The alb with folds is often worn during the most solemn celebrations, such as Sunday masses or important ceremonies. This type is also available in different fabrics, including silk and linen.

A particular clerical alb is the Roman alb. This particular type has a wide horizontal band on the chest and a row of buttons. The Roman alb is often paired with a coat and is worn during important liturgical celebrations, such as Easter and Christmas.

In addition, there are liturgical albs that present designs or embroidery. These are often personalized and may include religious designs, such as crosses or sacred symbols, or decorative elements such as leaves and flowers and are usually worn during special celebrations or liturgical feasts.

Lastly, there are also clerical chasubles with a different color than white. For example, the purple chasuble is worn during Lent, while the red vestment is worn during the celebrations of the martyrdom of the saints. The green vestment, on the other hand, is worn during the ordinary time of the liturgical year.
