Restauration of a Processional Canopy

Textile
The silk baldacchino is composed of a sky and four double-sided curtains. All the metallic thread embroideries have been applied to carry over while the silk embroideries are made directly on the background fabric.
The entire work is covered with decorative motifs with stylized floral branches. At the center of the sky there is a large sunburst with a small dove in silver metallic yarn in the center.
In addition to the racemes in metallic yarn, there are also floral motifs in silk
polychrome.
Six paintings on silk are depicted on the internal flounces in octagonal frames which
include: The Last Supper; The sacrifice of Isaac; The Jewish explorers return
from the land of Canaan; The washing of the feet; Manna from heaven in the desert;
King David receives the temple offering loaves
The baldacchino looked like an organic work as a whole, however given the deterioration
of the background fabrics, a timely restoration was necessary.

Steps of the restoration:
- DISASSEMBLY
- ASPIRATION AND STEAMING of fabrics
- CLEANING of fabrics and embroidery
- REMOVAL of mending
- CONSOLIDATION of frames and painted silk
- VEILING
- EMBROIDERY
- PAINTING RETOUCH
- PACKAGING
