Incense bowls are accessories for the liturgy and play a very important role in religious celebrations. These vessels are used to burn incense, purify the environment and create a unique atmosphere. This is also a symbol of offering and sacrifice, as the smoke is offered to God as a sign of adoration and gratitude. These liturgical objects are an important element for the preparation of altars for churches and they provide to faithful deep and spiritual experience during religious celebrations.

History and evolution of incense bowls

These liturgical accessories are one of the oldest sacred objects used during church ceremonies. Their history dates back to ancient Egypt and Chinese civilization, where they were used for religious and therapeutic purposes. In Christianity, incense represents the prayer of the faithful that rises to God and is used during the Eucharistic celebration, the blessing of the faithful and other sacred ceremonies. Over the centuries, the incense holder has been made of various materials, including silver, gold, bronze and ceramics.

There have been different stylistic evolutions, from simpler shapes to more elaborate designs decorated with religious symbols.

Other sacred objects for liturgical furniture

In addition to the incense holder, there are many other liturgical objects that are used for sacred furniture in churches. One of these objects are chalices, that are used to hold wine during Mass. The chalice is the cup containing the Holy Mass wine which represents the blood of Christ and is handled with great respect and devotion by priests during the Eucharistic celebration.

Among the other sacred objects, there is monstrance, one of the liturgical supplies used to display the consecrated host during the prayer of adoration, and the censer, a vessel used to hold incense during liturgical ceremonies. In addition, churches can be decorated with decorations and adornments representing biblical scenes or saints venerated by the Christian community. All these sacred objects contribute to create a sense of devotion in churches and represent an important symbol of faith and worship for the faithful.
